This proverb means that timely work can save us a lot of labour. If a rent in cloth is not stitched for some time, it grows bigger and bigger. Later on it becomes difficult to mend the cloth as it requires many more stitches. This fact is applicable to all walks of life. It is universally true. It is easier to mend things at an early stage. An evil should be nipped in the bud. Anything that goes wrong should be rectified at once. Parents should not overlook the bad actions of their children. They should not allow such actions to develop into habits. The same is true in the case of human body. It is easy to control a disease in the beginning. But it can become chronic if it is not controlled in time. It can prove fatal. So, the wise thing is not to put off till tomorrow what we can do today.
